"Quantum Theory Suggests Consciousness is Eternal | The Path to Human Immortality"
Death, which is feared by 69% of the world's population, has a technical definition of irreversible cessation of all brain functions. Which means, being brain dead is called ultimate death. And that's why, if the brain is restored in any way, then we can be immortal.
But the brain is such a delicate organ, that many of its neurons die just by touching it. It is currently biologically impossible to connect the cranial nerves of the brain to any other system or the cranial nerves of the body. By the way, there was an American neurosurgeon named Robert White.
He attempted an experiment in which he connected the head of a monkey to the head of another monkey. But just 8 days after this experiment, the monkey died. Now, even though this experiment failed, don't worry.
Today, quantum mechanics has found a way to become immortal with the help of consciousness. Basically, consciousness develops in our brain, which we can use to understand things around us on a personal level. So, consciousness is like an operating system of the brain.
And through this, we get our own individual personality. So, if someone's consciousness is copied, then his entire lifetime data, his way of thinking, his favorite things, etc. etc.
will exist forever and he will become immortal. Now, the credit for proving this possibility goes to Roger Penrose, who invented the concept of the singularity of the black hole. But it all started long before the birth of Roger Penrose.

In 1924, a scientist named Louis de Broglie presented an incident to the world, which made it seem that the entire universe is conscious and making decisions by itself. He said that just like light shows dual nature, that is, particles and waves exist in both forms at the same time, in the same way, everything present in the universe, like matter, even you and I, show dual nature. Now, this is such a thing that the universe is playing a probabilistic game like Ludo without showing its fixed nature, which the physicists did not like at all.
Because this revealed the probabilistic nature of the universe, rather than deterministic, which most of the physicists believed in at that time. Because according to them, the universe should be predictable due to its fixed physical laws, rather than uncertain. But in 1927, theoretical physicist Heisenberg gave a principle called the Uncertainty Principle.
Now, under this, he basically said that it is impossible for us to measure the position and momentum of quantum particles at the same time. Now, at that time, scientists were not able to digest the de Broglie hypothesis and the Uncertainty Principle. But some physicists like Niels Bohr and Max Planck were with these concepts.
And after understanding these concepts, when Niels Bohr performed the double slit experiment, then he got quite weird results. So, when Niels Bohr passed high-speed electrons through the double slit, then he saw that the electrons were passing through the right or left slit and randomly colliding on the screen. And an interference pattern is being created, as if the electrons behave as waves.
But then, when he consciously observed the behavior of the electrons in the same setup with the help of a detector, then he noticed that the electrons were behaving like particles and not like waves. Because there was not an interference pattern on the screen, but a particular pattern. In short, whenever a conscious being or a measuring device consciously monitors the activity of an electron, or as we can say in the language of physics, actively measures it, then electrons, for some weird reason, transform from their wave state to a particular state and become particles.
And that's why in 1932, physicist Von Neumann passed a generalized statement in front of the scientific community. He said that whenever we observe quantum objects through the apparatus of a conscious classical object, then the quantum system changes its form and it transforms into a new system. Now, because consciousness was a very interesting topic, and with the help of quantum mechanics, the answer to the existence of consciousness was visible, but then many scientists, including the famous quantum physicist Erwin Schrödinger, also jumped into it and derived a wave equation directly for quantum particles.

This equation basically said that a particle will go left or right, but there was also a third state of this equation, that the particle can go in both directions until and unless its wave function does not collapse due to a conscious measurement. This third state was named the superposition state. After this, Schrödinger also wrote a book on the relationship between consciousness and quantum mechanics, Mind and Matter, in which he said that consciousness is nothing but a complex quantum phenomenon that happens in the neurons of our brain.
And then scientists got a new perspective from this book, with the help of quantum mechanics, they accepted the existence of consciousness. They also accepted that consciousness is not a spiritual thing, but a scientific and physical phenomenon. And this concept was so fascinating that Roger Penrose himself became interested in it and he worked ahead and proved that we may never die.
So, according to Roger Penrose, our brain is also like a quantum system that is always in superposition. In fact, in 1989, he wrote a book called The Emperor's New Mind, in which he said that as soon as the wave function collapses, quantum particles come to a particular state from the superposition state. So basically, as you saw in the double slit experiment, whenever there was an observer or a measuring device, the electrons were converting from their superposition state to a particle state.
This is basically called wave function collapse. Similarly, our brain is also a quantum system that is in superposition state and as soon as its wave function collapses, consciousness is born. For example, if I say Apple, then the wave function of your brain, which was in superposition state, collapsed into a particular state, into a particular thought.
After that, it will start thinking about Apple just like it happens in the quantum world. But there is a catch here. Some people will think of apple fruit, some people will think of its spelling, some people will see a phone and some people will think of its shape and color because our consciousness is completely different from each other.
The reason for this is our different brains. And if we go into more detail, then our unique DNA. Look, in the whole world, everyone's DNA is 98% the same and the remaining 2% only makes us different, which is mostly expressed in the neurological system.
Now, if you look at it, there are 300 crore nucleic bases in the DNA and that's why its 2% is still 6 crores. According to the permutation combination of 6 crore different nucleic bases, every human being can be 2 raised to the power of 6000 times different from each other. Which shows that an infinite number of thoughts run in a person's mind, just like in a superposition state.
And consciousness comes from this superposition state, i.e. interference pattern, to a particular state, i.e. to a particular pattern. Now, this concept was very promising. But there was only one problem with it.
According to Penrose, the neurons of our brain are very big for quantum superposition and the chances of superposition in such big structures are quite impossible. In short, there was a mechanism of consciousness in theory, but there was no structure in the brain that could give birth to consciousness quantum mechanically. And for the next 10 years, this perspective was lost.
Because the matter was not moving forward. Until, anesthesiologist Stuart Hameroff read Penrose's book and he made an important discovery and emailed him. He told Penrose that your perspective is possible if you consider the net of microtubules in them instead of neurons.
According to Hameroff, the neurotransmitters released by neurons on their synaptic terminals travel inside the neurons on these microtubules. Because these microtubules are spread in all directions, the possibilities of signal transmission are infinite, just like quantum mechanics. Now, because of these infinite possibilities, microtubules can go in any direction and release neurotransmitters.
But as soon as we think about a particular thing, those infinite possibilities collapse and neurotransmitters start traveling in a particular direction. Then those microtubules release neurons in that direction by which we can think about that particular thing. Brilliant explanation, right? But even today, many scientists, physicists and philosophers don't believe in this research.
According to them, consciousness is not a physical phenomenon and that's why it can't be studied with quantum physics. But on the other hand, there is Elon Musk who, like Penrose, considers consciousness to be a physical quantity. In fact, he even said in an interview that consciousness can be copied.
And he's not just saying this in the air because he himself is working on the same thing through Neuralink which, by the way, we talked about in this post. But let's recall it again. Neuralink is basically a chip made of 3072 electrodes which will be implanted in the brain by which the brain will be able to connect to a computer.
In fact, it has been successfully tested on a monkey. In this content, you can guess how the monkey is controlling the game through its brain after implanting Neuralink. And I know after reading this experimental article , you must be thinking that reading consciousness is very speculative.
But logically, if Neuralink can trace 50% of a person's neurotransmitters, then it will be a big step to understand consciousness. And apart from this, if Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff's theory is practically correct and explains consciousness, then with the help of Neuralink, our digital immortality is completely possible. And that too with two simple steps.
First of all, before our death, the brain will be scanned and copied by a consciousness scanner. And then our consciousness will be uploaded on a humanoid or human cyborg or host computer. And it will be preserved forever until it can be used in any other entity.
But apart from its immortality, there are many other benefits. For example, we can learn any skill like karate, singing, dance, etc. in a moment by uploading it to our humanoid body.

But according to Elon Musk, we can also use it to defeat AI. That is, what AI knows, by uploading it to our consciousness through Neuralink, we will always be one step ahead of AI. Because they think that AI consciousness is happening and it can become a big threat to humanity.
